Having been in the restaurant business for 28 years, my advice is NOT to attend bartending school. Its a waste of money. Your best bet is to get a job as a server and work your way up.
The reason for this is because a bar or restaurant owner/manager would rather promote from within or hire someone with experience. Any trained chimp can learn to make drinks (which is what they'll teach you at the bartending school). What the bartending school won't teach you is the ability to multi-task and great customer service skills. Both of these skills can be learned as a server.
So save your money and buy a good bartending dictionary from a used bookstore for $1.95. Get a job in a nice restaurant that has a full service bar. Work hard, show up for work on time, don't call in sick and have a postive attitude. You'll be promoted in no time.
