Is bartending school worth it? does it really help get jobs and do you need it to get a good bartending jobIs Bartending School Worth It?
Starting as a bar back is the easiest and most effective way to go about becoming a bartender since bars mostly hire based on experience, theres just some things a school cant teach you but at the same time its not a bad idea either, they're pretty cheap, you can usually make your money back within a week working, they'll give you the proper certification if your state requires one and if they have a good job placement program then they can help you get directly into bartending, skipping a couple years worth of barbacking; while they cant guarantee jobs a good bartending school will be in touch with a lot of bars in the area that do take students whos finished the course, I know several local bartenders who got a full time gig just a couple weeks out of bartending school, so basically being barback gives you more options and a higher chance of getting a good bartending job and going to school is a quicker way to get into it but you have a smaller chance of landing a gigIs Bartending School Worth It?

I worked as a F%26amp;B Manager for YEARS.. I have hired MANY bartenders. That being said, I would recommend that you find a bar willing to hire you as bar back and learn from the bartender. Get yourself a copy of Mr. Boston's Bar tending Guide and the Bartender's Bible. Read those and practice, practice practice, You will also need to take a TIPSclass for your certification you can take that online. The certification is good for 3 years. That course will teach you skills to deal with everyday situations in serving and selling alcohol and will also help you understand the laws the govern the service and sales. Ensure that you understand the DRAM Shop or General Liability Laws.
