As we've said on here a thousand and one times, unless your state requires that you go to bartending school, it's a waste of money.
I have never worked at a club or restaurant that will hire someone straight out of bartending school. Instead, most restaurants have you work your way up, learning the drinks as you go.
Memorizing a drink book, handing pressure, and getting along with guests are what you need.Is it a good idea to go to bartending school?
No, idiotic idea. Just get a job at a restaurant bar that doesn't get much business, learn via that, and move upward using prior experience as qualifications.
Experience trumps education 100% of the time.Is it a good idea to go to bartending school?
FOR A RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC NEEDING JOB? NOIs it a good idea to go to bartending school?
If you have felonies it might be hard for you to get a job serving alcohol whether you go to school or not-- just throwing that out there. Why don't you try to get another job and lose the idea that you could live your entire life just working on weekend nights-- that isn't realistic and the "hot spots" aren't going to be the ones willing to hire you and the places that hire you will be putting you on the crappy weekday/weeknight shifts for awhile. You have to work your way up anywhere you go.
