Does it make you that much more marketable? They won't give me an exact price until i tour, but they said under $1000. Is it worth that much money for a 2-week program?I am considering attending Pittsburgh Bartending School. Is it worth it?
$200 - 300 for a weeklong course is average, and will not get you a job as a bartender.
Most restaurant folk responding here give Bar Schools the Bronx Cheer; they all started as waiters or barbacks (assistants to the bartender), and learned mixology on-the-job: along with register procedure, safe-food handling, how to deal with violent drunks,... and other things you just won't learn at a school.I am considering attending Pittsburgh Bartending School. Is it worth it?
I don't think it is worth it. First of all, with the economy, alot of bartenders are out of work. Hotel business is down, therefore the need for bartenders is down.
Some schools are looking to make money. They may say that they will place you in jobs - but it doesn't happen.
As the other answer said, most people get their bartending jobs from being waitresses or back bar workers.
Go around and ask people who work in bars how they got their jobs.
I think you would be better off using your money for community college.
Good Luck.
