Bartending school a waste of time?

I've worked in restaurants all my life but I've never bar-tended. I really would love to learn, should I go to school? Or try to find a bar back job?Bartending school a waste of time?
Agreed. Experience is everything. I've been managing bars and restaurants for years now, and I can honestly tell you that going to a bar course makes very little difference. If someone comes to my bar with a resume telling me they've done a bar course, it has no bearing on my decision to give them a try. I'd prefer someone to come in, have a chat to me, and show me that you're really enthusiastic and eager to get behind the bar. Offer to work as a bussy (picking up glasses) or any role they can offer you. If you're a hard worker, and you've got a bit of personality, you'll be behind the bar in no time!

The fact that you have experience in the industry shows that you have an interest, and will be looked upon very favourably.Bartending school a waste of time?
Learning something new is never a waste of time but be sure there is bartender jobs out there. Some schools last only 4 mos so even if you couldnt find work ,that wouldnt be too much time. If it were for a year or more you may have to rethink it. Ask yourself "do I really want to bartend"? If yes go for it.Bartending school a waste of time?
i don't know about where you are from, but in australia it's only a two day course! Maybe investigate on how long it goes for and how much it'll cost? weigh up the pro's and con's. But if it's bartending you want to do, go for it! :)Bartending school a waste of time?
experience is everything, if u can afford school it never hurts to go, it opens up opportunities for better bartending jobs at higher class places, without it you may get the lower end bars full of overly drunk and loud people.
