Bartending School...is it worth it??

I'm a student, and I've read all the responses for other bartending school questions. But I don't really have the time to "work through the ranks" and am only looking at bartending as a supplement to help pay off school sooner. With no experience but all the other characteristics of a good bartender (organized, work ethic, thrive under pressure, personality, etc.), is it worth it to go to bartending school? Why or why not?Bartending School...is it worth it??
Bartending School will teach you the history of each alcohol as well as how to mix drinks. Its for serious career bartenders. In your case to pick up some extra cash while in school apply for bar back and you will pick up on drinks in no time.

In short, dive in. Bartending school would only be a waste.Bartending School...is it worth it??
I started bartending by just watching and making! I bartend at three different bars and managed a steakhouse/bar and never went to school. You learn, I think it is a profession that can be learned by on the job training. I would not pay money to go!
For you, i'd say no. Only as a last resort, if you really can't get a job.

Maybe later on in life it could be a good experience, i bet it'd be great fun!

Good luck in getting a job and paying fee's xxBartending School...is it worth it??
No way, it's a rip off. u can learn that at work (restaurant/bar grill). Just pay lots of attention n u'll get it.
No cuz you probably make a lousy wage meanwhile the drunkards probably can treat you like crap.Bartending School...is it worth it??
It comes with experience , not reall book work... it's like being a chef ... I have known excellent bartenders who have never been to Bartending school ..
I'm going to bartending school...I think its great harder then I thought it would be. And you get practice in.

I live in Los Angeles and plan to move to vegas soon, most jobs I have viewed for vegas mention a year bartendering or experience in school.

Drinks are harder then you think and it gives you the basics.
Not at all. I worked as a bartender in one of the busiest outside bars on the Hudson River across from new york city. whenever people came in with a bartending school certificate they were not hired. start at a restaurant as a server or try to get a job at a bar where they will train you. At bartending school you pour colored water not liquor, there is not really any learning.
