Do not pay for it at all. Get a job as a bar back and hustle your way into a bartenders position. Also consider doing self study. Finally, if you want schooling get a degree in Food %26amp; Beverage Management it will serve you much better.Do you pay for bartending school? If so, how much is it usually?
Look you can spend anywhere from 200-700 bucks to go to a so called school to learn how to bartend. It's not necessary and in some cases it can even hinder you. For example they might teach you how to make drinks for a club and you end up working in a restaurant. At a fine dining establishment you'll never be asked how to make an Incredible Hulk, but you won't know how to make a Pisco Sour, so what did you take a course for? If you want to just pull beers and pour shots, again why go to a bartending school? If you want to go all-the-way, read on:
Best thing you can do right now is grab a copy of Ben Reed's Bartender's Guide off of a used book website like abebooks.com - lots on what makes a drink good (fresh juices, balance, presentation, etc...) and a lot on technique. Now you have the problem of getting the alcohol to create the drinks because you're not of legal drinking age. Do what I did, work in a bar as a bar back, stocking coolers, learning, paying your dues. When you turn 21 start going to some of the better bars in NYC (Death %26amp; Co, Milk and Honey, PDT) and then you'll really see what is possible with fine ingredients and training. In the meantime search for some videos on bartending:
For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkBoXXyEh鈥?/a> by my friend Don Lee
or the bartending videos on http://www.smallscreennetwork.com/
And my final tip, if you want to do the whole "flair" bartending, (just for fun) tape your bottles in duct tape, that way if you break one it's likely to cut you / make a mess.
Cheers!

To answer your first question: Ive heard that it is not worth it all that money they charge.I read al ot of yahoo answers, people say school is not worth it. I don't really know. Because my friend recommend a bartending/book to me Bartendingexposed.com it only cost me 37.00. I was like you I am going to FSU in Fl. I wanted to work at a collage bar to help pay my bills. And I had always wanted to bartend. For me Bartending school was to expensive 600.00 for a 2 week course here.I personally am glad now I didn't spend that kind of money.
My friend told me about a bartending site that cost me 37.00. I downloaded the book and started studying my drink recipes and the rest of the book. When I felt confident I applied for jobs. I got one at a collage bar.I was so happy. I am making great money.I get cash daily about 150.00 a night plus a check every 2 weeks for 300.00. Its a good job. I go to school 2x a week. Anyway, I really recommend this book to anyone, it teaches you every thing that you need to know to become a bartender. And you asked about a certificate? No one ever asked me for anything. You might have to go and take a small alcohol and tobacco test. That some states require. Its nothing. good luck hope this was helpful.Do you pay for bartending school? If so, how much is it usually?
I go to school also. Needed to make some extra money to pay bills. I ordered a bartending book on line bartendingexposed.com. I am working now part time but thats what I needed. The bartending Schools are a rip off. I checked the price. Way to much. If you want a good bartending course that is good and not expensive check out that site. Good luck man
