Going to bartending school?

Does anyone have an experience with bartending school? How much would it cost? and Was it worth it? Seems like a semi-fun job...just wondering.Going to bartending school?
I took a bartending class at my local community college. It was about $75.00. In my state you can bartend without a license as long as there is a licensed bartender with you. Otherwise you need to take the class to get a license. I love bartending and it's great money (depending on where and business volume of course)Going to bartending school?
If your state doesn't require it, then it's a waste of money.

The best way to become a bartender is to get a job at a restaurant and work your way up through the ropes. Take the initiative to learn the drinks and volunteer to cover barback shifts. Have a great outgoing personality and be able to work under pressure.Going to bartending school?
I think it is worth it to learn the skills. I have yet to come by a bartender that I have been impressed with skillwise. I spend plenty of time teaching and training all our bartenders to try and correct their past mistakes. It is easy to learn the skills but hard to break bad habits.

Here is a helpful article for getting into the bartending business:

Unless you want to do flair bartending in Vegas or something bartending school is a waste of time and money. I've been a bartender for close to a decade and have worked with people just out of bartending school and they were a waste of my time. The best way to learn is the hard way, get a job in a restaurant and get promoted to the position. It is a great job and the money is awesome but bartending school doesn't teach you the intangibles such as how to deal with that drunk regular or that testoserone filled ***, you can only learn that from experience and not everyone is capable of doing it, it definately takes a special personality to do it well. The other thing to keep in mind is that in bartending school they teach you their way of bartending when in fact every bar you work at has their own way of doing it (measuring drinks or free pour, flair or not, the types of liquor they carry, etc.).
