I'm looking into going to batending school and I wanted some personal experience storiesHas anybody every gone to Bartending school? Was it worth it?
I've been bartending for 19 years now. I work at 2 amazing golf courses and I love my job(s)!!
I never went to bartending school, when I was in my early 20's I started working at a restaurant and waited for a bartending position to open up. I had asked the manager how I could go about getting behind the bar.
AT that time he just told me to increase my liquor sales, by upselling (selling top shelf liquor products) and he watched the increase in my check average... the more liquor you sell the more money on the check, and obviously the bigger the tip.
With that, I did get behind the bar when the next position opened up...that is how a lot of places hire. They want you as a server, and they want you to sell, top shelf and push the booze..... that impresses, and it gets you behind the bar, usually IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!
So, don't waste your money, and find a place you can work your way to the bartending position! Then from there you will get trained and you can go to any place you want, because you have experience!! Good luck.
Also, I know 2 girls who went to bartending school recently, one got (head hunted) right from the bartending school to work at a strip club (she has big boobs) Also she didn't need to have experience bartending, because they would hire any girl who showed up and inquired to be a bartender! The second has been looking and applying for 2 years, and has not gotten a job yet...she now sell real estate instead!Has anybody every gone to Bartending school? Was it worth it?
not worth itHas anybody every gone to Bartending school? Was it worth it?
Ive never gone but thought about it myself awhile back, a friend of mine who DID go talked me out of it. He aced the course and the best he could do was a bowling alley. one of the first lessons he learned was that experience counts, and that the people who got the good jobs recieved ON THE JOB training, and looks are also a factor. so no offense, but if you are ugly forget the high paying bar gigs, it's the kind of enviroment where hot is everything.Has anybody every gone to Bartending school? Bartending schools are a total RACKET.
They don't teach you anything you won't get from reading one text book on the subject. Employers want people with service experience, so, memorizing recipies and being willing to start out as a server, is the way to get the best bartending jobs.
no bartending school is a waste of your time and money. I work in a nightclub been a bartender for 3 years. one of my bartenders when to school and honestly was just blind as could be when he came to work for us. things vary from state to state and bar to bar. I would just go find a job and let them train you for what you need. good luck
