Pretty much it's your speed and accuracy, and the memorization of a broad array of drinks. Being sociable during your interview audition also helps. If you're trying to get a job as a bartender, does it matter what bartending school you attended?
They might, but I think the biggest factor is YOU. If they feel that you will fit their establishment and develop a following, then all you have to do is be able to mix the drinks. If you're trying to get a job as a bartender, does it matter what bartending school you attended?
Legal requirements will vary from state to state, but in 12+ years working in the hospitality/food and beverage industry, at all the places I worked, having been to bartending school was a sure-fire way to NOT get hired! (Here in Texas, most places want you to be TABC certified, but that is concerning alcohol consumption, and has nothing to do with actually being able to mix the drinks.)
If you've already been to a bartending school, have them give you a LONG list of employers they know will hire their graduates. If you haven't been to school yet and are just considering it, ask around at several places you'd like to go to work. If they say they'd rather not hire bartending school graduates, try to get in either as a waiter or barback. That will get your foot in the door, and after you've been there a while you can ask to be trained to be a bartender.
Also, F%26amp;B is an industry where you're going to have to be willing to "pay some dues". It can be brutal, but the things you can learn that you never would have thought about are surprising...to say the least. If you're trying to get a job as a bartender, does it matter what bartending school you attended?
Most of the places I've worked they've looked at where I've worked before. High Volume? How long did I work there? If you don't have bartending experience, then they'll check references. They'll get a vibe from you too. Are you going to be easy to work with? Are you a hard worker?
My wife was looking for a bartender for her restaurant and a kid came into my bar (different places) and he starts spouting how his new job is dumb because they don't make the drinks he does, and why should he have to trail this girl who has less experience and dang, they want to send me to some managing class, blah, blah, blah. He applied at my wife's place and I told her about his "better than everyone rant". Nobody wants to work with someone like that. Restaurants end up being a small community. Word gets around.
What bartending school you went to is next to nothing.
Buy the bartender bible ,workout, look good, pratice at home .Hang out at the bar one a week and you will have a job in no time. Dying your hair pink doesnt hurt.
