Is bartending school worth it?

I hate my job and would like to finish school quicker. Ive been a server at restaturants before and I think I want to go back instaed of this 9-5 job I work. I was wondering how reputable bartending schools are? I've found some you can do at home and online, and some hands-on classes also. Im just wondering if its worth it before I spend all that money! What have been your experiences? Is bartending school worth it?
Not so sure about going to bartending school. Your best bet is going back to a restaurant, putting your time in as a server and asking to make you a bartender. After a few year of experience, you can bartend pretty much anywhere.

A friend of mine went to Drinkmaster bartending school. He got a job bartending pretty quickly. He thinks having the certificate to show got him a better position (better times, etc) right out of the gate. He basically paid his way through college doing this, including a Masters degree. Is bartending school worth it?
well i have found that hotels that have bars in them seem to always be in need of bartenders because the bartenders seem to always move on to higher paying positions in exclusive clubs and in the private sector. Let me relate my personal experience to you.

When I was in Atlanta, I worked as a security guard at a 4 start hotel. The woman in charge of the bad asked me if I knew someone that would be interested in bartending, and I said no, but that I had always been interested in it myself but didn't have no experience.

She said if I was for real, she'd teach me everything needed to bartend, plus all bartenders have the ever faithful "Mr. Boston" book right at hand at the bar for anything you didn't know how to mix.

Well I started training the very next night, made $117 in tips, and was selected to go on the hotel's wall of fame which is when customers reccommend outstanding employees to the hotel manager.

After just a couple of months, I too did just like the rest, and followed the big money at the exclusive clubs and in the private sector. People like the mayor and other big money people pay bartenders like you wouldn't believe when you do one of their private parties. And the big money people you get to meet and network with is unreal.

I've found that this is the best and easiest way to get started bartending in about any area. besides, it's free training while getting paid, plus tips.

Just something for you to consider. Wishing you much success.
