I am 19 I live in the city of Detroit MI and my friend recently told me that i wont be able to become a bartender even if i get a license and i was wondering what are the benfits of bartending school? Should I attend? Do you think I will get a job? How fast will I get a job? Will I only be able to work at a restaurant?Should I got to Bartending School?
I'll be honest with you, bartending school most likely won't help you find a job but it can be fun. Learning how to make drinks, state laws, communication skills, and in many cases learning some basic flair. My instructor taught alot of flair. Your best bet at finding a job is to wait tables until you're 21. Most bartenders are former servers, since it requires many of the same skills. Good luck.Should I got to Bartending School?
I didn't even know that here in the US that you can go to bartending school under 21 because of tastings. Anyway, go for it. Don't look at restaurants, go for country clubs and resorts for the big tips. You might have to work back-bar for a while, but it'll pay off. A friend of mine was laid off from a big company and took the classes and ended up bartending at the Harvard Club events. She made more money than she did at her previous job!Should I got to Bartending School?
In most places, getting a bartending job before you're 21 is really hard unless the places you plan to work are constantly slammed with clientelle and need bartenders fast. In these situations, having a bartending class would be beneficial because they will first look at your age and see that as a let down, then, they'd see you have some experience from a class.
Some states don't care at all though, so I'm not quite sure about Michigan. Here's an article you might want to read to find out a little more about taking the bartending classes.
