I can't tell you about UK, but I'll give you the scoop on the US and you can take that for what it's worth.

If you aren't a bartender, bartending school is useless. If you want a job as a bartender, you start as a waitress/waiter and tell the bar manager you'd like to work the bar when a spot comes open. If you stick around long enough and can handle orders at tables, they might hire you.

The main reason is that bartenders serve something like 90% of the same drinks day in and day out. You serve single pours (shots, beer, wine), call drinks %26amp; simple mixers and the house drinks that you won't learn in bartending school anyway. You'll have to memorize 10 drinks and there'll be a head barkeep if you don't know how to make something. Your ability to show up and not screw up tabs is ten times more important than whether you know how to mix a sidecar or a real margarita.

Bartending school will help you go from Bar %26amp; grill (or pub) bartending to higher end bartending where you'll have to mix cocktails. Those jobs aren't going to hire you if your only skill is going to bartending school. What is the best bartending school in London?
