Do you really need to go to a bartending school or know every drink in the world to be a bartender?

I really wanna be a bartender because i love meeting new people and the excitement. But i know very little about making drinks.Do you really need to go to a bartending school or know every drink in the world to be a bartender?

well then bartend. You don' have to go to school. I am a bartender and haven't gone to school. Also, you can got o school for 20 years to be a bartender and you still won't know every drink there is.
Nah. If you go somewhere like a sports-bar type restaurant (maybe like Red Robin), then they'll probably higher you for less busy times, and you can learn all the drinks, AND get paid for it. My daughter works at a local neighborhood bar. She started there about 7 years ago and didn't know anything about bar tending... However being a bartender has put her through college. She can make $300.00 in a weekend of 2 days work. I commend her... she is very good at what she does and she always works as if she owns the bar.... never gives away free drinks... and treats the customers great. She gets bonuses for high sales... and great tips.
The best bartending school is to jump in and find a job at a bar. Buy a few good recipie books. The best way to learn about drinks, is by making and drinking. Do this in moderation. In my area, bartending classes are only two weeks long. Not enough time to learn everything you will need to know. Also, you need to think about what you need to do to get licenced. In my state, you cannot serve alcholol with out a mixology permit, and even waitresses serving bottled beer have to have one. If you know what size shot glasses are needed,you can make a mixed drink.They sale recipes for them.It is a little book.They have a computer one also that has them..Just get the one you want and follow their directions,and enjoy your self...
