If you are concerned about your hourly wage you are at the wrong bar my friend. Bartenders live off tips. I've ordered many rounds where the tip would be comparable to an hours worth of wages. Work hard, earn great tips off your customers, and the "wage" will just be pocket change. Many bartenders can expect $300-1000 in tips per night, but this obviously depends not only on WHERE you work but also the SHIFTS that you get assigned. Tuesday afternoon pays pennies compared to Thursday through Saturday nights. Seniority is king at good bars- You need to get into a great place and work your way up.
Hope that helps! How much would be a good hourly wage for a bartender right out of bartending school?
Bartenders in most cases make the tipped wage, which depending upon what state you live in is usually half of what minimum wage is. Like in Georgia any tipped employee makes $3.35 an hour, as long as the tips earned average $3.40 an hour. If you don't declare enough tips based on the hours you work, then the company must pay you minimum wage. So don't plan your future based on hourly wage, you need to look at what tips you earn. How much would be a good hourly wage for a bartender right out of bartending school?
