I am 19 years oldHow much money does a bartender make? I want to start bartending school i want to see if i should go for it.?
I have bartended at many different places in my life. I do not think that bartending school is worth the time and money depending on where you are oging to work.
If you can, find a job as a cocktail waitress/waiter at a local bar/club so you can aboserve how everything works while making money at the same time.
The next thing I would do is buy a book such as bartending for dummies. When you get a bartending job, bring it with you ( cover it or hide it in a drawer so customers don't notice) The majority of people order fairly simple drinks and it is easy to catch on.
Depending on where you get a job the pay ranges a lot. The hourly pay ranges a lot from place to place too.
For the most part, day shift makes a lot less than night unless there is a ball game on.
Little hole in the wall places you will be lucky to make a hundred dollars a night. I've worked in busy college bars where I've made up to four or five hundred in one night but ran around the entire night. It also depends on how you have to split it up. You might have to tip out the door, kitchen, barback, bus boys, etc. So a place with a steady regular crowd that doesn't have a huge staff is what i find most desirable.
It is not as fun and easy as many people think. It can be physically and emotionally demanding. Drunk people are annoying! Cases of beer and kegs are heavy!
But you have to remember, it's cash and it's quick so you do feel great at the end of the night when you walk out with your tips!
