the best way to remember drink recipes...
and anything else i need to knowIs bartending hard? im considering going to bartending school, can anyone giv me any advice such as...?
Here is a good website for you:
www.drinknation.com
It is just like anything the more you practice the easier it is......the more times you make something it is easier with out your recipe cards.
I would Google bar tending.........and start reading all that I could.
Go to the library and start checking out books........ask the reference librarian if she has any books on drinks in her section too...........
Then see if you are still interested in attending the bar tending school........sometimes you can get a job in a small establishment......like a neighborhood bar.......and if you really like that type of work.......then attend bar tending school....and go for the big jobs. As for that type of education you couldn't really use it except to tend a bar.Is bartending hard? im considering going to bartending school, can anyone giv me any advice such as...?
The Schools for bartending are a waste of time and money. Try getting a job at a bar and usually they will teach you. Remembering drinks isn't that hard once you learn them. You have to make them to remember them. Bartending isn't really hard, it is stressful at the end of the night when you are dealing with the drunks, but is also alot of fun. As long as you can have a smile, and stand on your feet all night, and move at a good speed, you shouldn't have much of a problem. Its not for everyone but you should give it a try, maybe something you like.
I think that bartending schools are mostly a wasted of money. They basically teach you what drinks go in what glass, some basic drink recipies, and tips on telling if someone is drunk and should not be served. These are all things you can learn very quickly on your own with some hands on experience. your best bet is to find a bar or restaurant willing to train you. Every bar usually has a bartending book you can reference till you can remember drink recipies on your own. Many people and bartenders make drinks a little differently so things an vary, and people will ask you for drinks you have never even heard of but usually are willing to let you know the ingredients. Is bartending hard? im considering going to bartending school, can anyone giv me any advice such as...?
It's not hard but you need to be able to drink. I only say that because just because you have a recipe for it doesn't mean the general public will like it. You must know what every drink taste like and how to improve on it if someone tell's you it's too sweet or sour. Good luck it's smooth sailing after that unless you don't like working with the public and if that's the case I would suggest another careere path. Best of luck.
It will probably depend a lot on where you live. If you're trying for a fast paced establishment in a large city, definitely go to school!! Not only will you learn to handle the pace you will also learn all the ABC rules and your personal liabilities as an alcohol server for that particular area. If you live in a smaller town you can often find a job at a nice Inn or restaurant learning as you go, like I did. If you like working nights and enjoy people, it can be a great and fun job!!
Good shoes for hours of standing are a must!!Is bartending hard? im considering going to bartending school, can anyone giv me any advice such as...?
It's a really fun job. I loved making drinks for people. The only downside to it is when people get drunk, they don't really understand social etiquette. Some get really angry. When I was new to the trade I made some real BIG biker guy some Margaritas and he got real drunk, so I refused to serve him, and I thought he was going to body slam me. He was so mad at me. I had to go get the owner, and I asked him what to do and he told me to keep serving him, bad idea! He started yelling and stumbling. Eventually the police had to come and get him, but I was scared. He had been buying drinks for ladies around the bar too, and total he spent about $450.00 and he didn't leave me a tip!!! He came back in a couple of YEARS later and apologized to me. He still remembered what he did. But this was just one incident. It is almost always a great, fun job. As far as remembering the drinks, every bar I have ever been to, you have a book back there. You will make some drinks so often that you could never forget them, but other not so common ones, you just look those up. :)
If you go to school you will remember the drinks. I always kept Bartending for Dummies just in case. Be aware you have to be able to handle drunk people all night. It can wear on your Patience's. After you get some regulars your tips will increase. Good Luck!
My dad used to moonlight as a bartender, he says you don't need to go to school, just use the "bible", its a book of drinks, don't know which one.
