Is bartending school worth the time and money? I called the school today and the program is $204.00 for 2 weeks :) The instructor said you need 32 hours to cmplete the course. I just don't know if I should or not. I've tried to get a bar back position t start but so many places say they dont have any available. Is bartending school worth it?
Bartending school is a waste of time and money. You can get a job bartending with no experience at a restaurant and then once you gain more knowledge you can work at a bar. All it is is memorization, really. I've been bartending for 3 years and I've never gone to any school. In fact, I was serving at the restaurant when I bartending position opened up. They didn't have time to train me because the guy got fired for stealing so they just threw me back there knowing that I was capable of learning it. I pretty much taught myself everything and did a lot of memorizing of shots and stuff like that by looking online. You pick it up as you go along, and I've never had a drink sent back.Is bartending school worth it?
I don't know what you might learn from it, but it's not worth it in the sense you will get hired because you went to "bartending school." Restaurants look for experience, personality, the ability to move quickly, multi-task, and knowledge.
If you want a job as a bartender, get restaurant experience. If you already work in a restaurant, this is great, but if you have no experience, you will have the best luck starting out at a chain restaurant as a server, or an independent restaurant as a host/hostess, sticking with the job, and working your way up to bartender by demonstrating your work ethic and people skills. In the mean time, learn everything you can about liquor, beer, and wine.
A bar tending class is like a fast track class in Chem 1...
They will talk about the terminology used in bar tending, different measurements, alcohols, and probably effects of alcohols on the body, so yes it probably will be a good idea, a bartender is actually a specialized job, and it has come a long way since the days of serving up strait alcohols and beers, and covering up the bad taste of moonshine, it is a science now... Just consider it a cheap investment in training that is better learned before hand than on the job, remember the tenders is often responsible for the alcohol they use.Is bartending school worth it?
No. I make 300.00 a night and I didn't have to pay all that money for a bartending school. I payed 37.00 for an on line course. why do think you need a bartnding school? The course that I took taught me everything that I needed to know to be a bartender. Why do you all think you need to go to a school? I learned the same things that a school would be teaching you. But I only paid 37.00. So many people say that bartending schools are a rip off, look at all the comments on this site. That's how I ended up taking an on line course... I found a good one it was recommend to me . It is the BOMB! I t cost me 37.00! Bartendingexposed.com Thanks for the recommendation!
Its worth it compared to college, I pay more than 10 time that amount for one semester at college, and after that semester is over all I have is a few more units, more debt, some waste of knowledge, because your force to take classes you don't need, and still no degree.
so $ 204is not that bad of an investment. Is bartending school worth it?
Depends. It certainly helps with your drink mixing techniques and memorizing basic drinks. I went through the school and have yet to find someone at a bar that can mix as well as I can. On the other hand, it may not not necessarily help you get a job any easier without. Getting a job in bartending seems to be by starting as a barback or just having a good contact. Very helpful!
Most definately - when I go to the bar, I usually know what I want, but if it's not a bottled beer, I'd want to deal with someone who knows their drinks, and who can inform me on anything new.
its def. worth it. my dad is a bartener. even tho its a recession my dad is still making $2,000- 2,500 a week.. just be ready to work HARD and kiss ***...
off course yes! just imagine working at a nice bar with a good payment plus tips...
