Bartending School: Preferred or not to get a Job?

I was thinking about picking up a second job as a bartender here in seattle, but wanted to know am i better of with the certificate or do i really need one at all?

ThanksBartending School: Preferred or not to get a Job?
It really just depends. If you want to bartend at a restaurant most of them promote bartenders from within so the school would be a waste of money. In addition, most local clubs train there own bartenders because they have special house drinks that not even you local school will know the recipe for. I was a manager of a restaurtant and we proffered our staff to learn everything they knew from us. People are more coach able when they start with a blank slate. I would say the school is a waste of money.Bartending School: Preferred or not to get a Job?
There are two schools of thought:

No you don't need a certificate to prove you can tend Bar and bartending school is a waste of money.

Yes go to bartending school because a good provides lifetime placement and you can move up into management if you are with a corporate owned chain.

I went to school I loved it and I never regretted it but I had to deal with a lot of snotty bartender who kept telling me I wasted my money.

The way I looked at it, Chefs go to Culinary chool even though we have cook books, wouldn;t it be a better Idea to go to Bartending school to learn about alcohol.

Plus bartending school educates you on the history of various brands, customer service etc.

To this day I can pick up a phone, dial a 800 number and get placement if I need a job.

Not such a waste of money.Bartending School: Preferred or not to get a Job?
no waste of Ur time if u want to get it in something Else such as sales or cash register.Bartending School: Preferred or not to get a Job?
I've found that it is not necessary. But, I went and don't regret it. I learned so much that I'll never use, but it was fun and I feel like I know more than most.

However, I have had to train others with no training and really didn't think it was fair that I paid to go to school and trained them for free.

I no longer bartend and go back to the bar and see that they are like the blind leading the blind. There were reasons that liquor was put in a certain order, there are certain glasses that are meant for certain drinks, etc. They don't have a clue and it's really annoying to us who know the difference.
