I'm Trying to get a second job and love drinks would it be great or a good idea to go to school for it?or just a waste of time I live in dallas quite a bit bars but just not sure.thanksIs it worth going to bartending school?
No just get a job as a bar back read about cocktails memorize recipes and work your way upIs it worth going to bartending school?
Pedro is totally correct. Bartending "school" is a scam. Any bar school grad I've let stage has had no idea how to change a keg, no idea about wine or pairings, no idea about classic cocktails, and have an unexplainable love of sour mix.
If you want to learn, either work your way up or lie. If you lie, make sure you can pull it off. Learn your basic drinks and common drink mods (neat, up, rocks, cherry, twist, etc.). Learn which drinks go in which glasses. Read up in basic wine info.Is it worth going to bartending school?
As a manager, if you told me you had gone to bartending school, that would immediately disqualify you. They tell you they will help you get a job, and I have never heard of them being succesful. I agree with the previous answer. Work your way up. Or...you can lie about your experience, and practice there. Then go somewhere you want to work, and you have real experience. Just buy a Mr. Boston's Bartending book, and read the first sections...Most of it is recipes. Any monkey can pour a drink...the skill lies in personality, and ability to work quickly, and efficiently. Is it worth going to bartending school?
im a bartender an didnt take any classes. some places will train you, but in dallas it might not be a bad idea to take a class. if you take classes look into flare bartending, in dallas you might make a lot more money
If you plan on working in a bar it is definitely worth it.
