Must i attend bartending school if i only plan of doing it while i work my way through college?

i need money for college, and i've been reading about it but it doesn't say how long bartending school is. some sites say its essential and some say forget about it. do i attend or no?

how much is it and how long is it?Must i attend bartending school if i only plan of doing it while i work my way through college?
I never needed bartending school. There are a lot of different drinks, but you don't really need to know how to make ALL of them. I worked as a cocktail server first, learned a lot of drinks that way but as a bartender, I made margaritas, long island teas, whiskey sours, amaretto sours, bourbon and whatever, rum and whatever, gin/vodka tonics, gin/vodka martinis. And I opened a lot of beers.

I also went to London, got a job in an Irish pub. Had to learn to pour a "proper" Guiness and the different ratios of whiskey to coke, and use a lot less ice.

I think bartending schools are a rip off. A lot of bars have a seniority system, you start off as bar back staff or a server in the bar and work your way up as people quit. All bars have a drink recipe book, if you don't know it, you look it up!

Bartending can be a lot of fun, it's more about your attitude than anything.Must i attend bartending school if i only plan of doing it while i work my way through college?
I think you can, but I think that it last about five weeks or so.Must i attend bartending school if i only plan of doing it while i work my way through college?
Most establishments want credentials.

It's not just the mixing of drinks....it's also staying on the right side of the health dept.Must i attend bartending school if i only plan of doing it while i work my way through college?
I think you can pass on school.

90% of tending bar bar is pouring.

For the rest you can use a book or if you get a job at a small friendly place, if you get stuck you can ask the customer, most people will be happy to teach you the best way to make their favorite beverage.
