Bartending school?

Has anyone ever attended a bartending school? I have been looking at some in Austin that last about 2 weeks. They have job placement. I was just curious if anyone has or know someone who has and was it worth it.Bartending school?
I agree with the last person. I have been bartending for 4 years and I was a waitress and cocktail waitress for 3 years before that. From my experience working in many different types of restaurants, employers hire from within. They will offer open bartending positions to their barbacks and servers before they will even consider advertising a position or looking through past applications. And just because you went to bartending school does not mean you can bartend! Bartending schools will take anyone because they want your money. It's a good place to learn the basics, but they won't teach you what experience does. You will not be prepared for a bartending job just because you went to bartending school if you have no experience in the bar/restaurant industry. Being an intelligent, hardworking, reliable, fun, fast bartender with a ton of personality...they don't teach you that and that's what's going to get you a good job! Start as a barback or server and make sure your application says you have the intention of becoming a bartender! Then you wait for that opportunity and ask for it when a position becomes available. You have to prove yourself in that business before you get a good job like that!Bartending school?
They are expensive, but if you get a good job, it is well worth it. It is not particularly difficult, but just like anything else, you will have to study and demonstrate your proficiency.Bartending school?
i attended one in Denver after bartendingg for a cpl years. i did learn some really cool things, and enjoyed the experience. but i did not find the job placement to be of any help at all, and wound up back in school for massage. so yeah it was worth the knowledge that i did gain, but be prepared to find your own way after.Bartending school?
I have attended bartending school, however I went in San Francisco, it is well worth it. I have yet to find a job only because I haven't been looking, my day job supports me. The school is well worth it, its two weeks everyday, most schools have morning, afternoon, or eveninig options. They will teach you everything you need to know, I live in California and at some of the middle class to upper middle class bartenders make $300 - $500 in tips on Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights. Bar owners just want to know if you "have it" or not. The personality that will make you a good bartender, must be good with people.
Save your money!

Get a bar backing job, learn from real life experience! Bar tending school is a Big racket, they teach you what you can learn one day at a real job, and you will get paid instead of paying someone Else. And as for their "job placement" forget it. Any bar that actually hires from these schools is not worth working at at all. Basically restaurant/bar owners want experience and personality, not a computerized robotic bartender.

Good luck
