I'd like to find how to become a bartender. What I'm wondering is, do most people go to a bartender school, or do they learn how "on the job"? If you learn it on the job, how do you get a job with no experience and suceed? Seems like it would be difficult to just walk into. Is Bartending School a big waste of time?Bartending School??
You dont need to go to bartending school. You need to buy a book called the Bartenders Guide, which gives you the recipes of every drink. The #1 fabulous quality of a bartender is his or her memory, and knowledge of drinks. If you can memorize the top 50 drinks, and at least know the core liquors in others, you'll be fine.
The easiest way to break into it is to be a server in a restaurant/bar, and let the manager know you want to become a bartender. Let him/her know that you know ALL your drinks (and really know them!) and then take on a day shift, see what you think. It will let the manager see how you do.
If you are friendly, have a good memory for recipes, and can handle stress (10 drinks need to be made for servers waiting for you to make them, you need to make two drinks for people at the bar, you just ran out of Grey Goose, and when yous tart to pull a Guiness, the keg blows) then you will be just fine.
Bartending school is a waste of money.
Best of luck!Bartending School??
I went to Bartending academy. It's not a waste of time or money. YOu technically could get the same education from on the job training and a book, but the Job Placement factor is invaluable. They have lots of ins to help people find jobs.Bartending School??
i don't know first hand but i have heard that bartending school is a waste of time. usually the bar will hire you as a bar back ((a bartenders assistant)) and also train on how they want you to bartend... that's just what i've heard.. i'm from florida, though.. it may be different from place to place.Bartending School??
i knew then
I too have consider this. Some tell me that schooling is a waste of time and money. I have been told that your pay depends on the employer. I can cost from a minimum of $600 dollars and up depending on your location and if they have competing schools nearby.
I am considering one in Sherman Oaks California near the corner of Van Nuys and Ventura Boulevards.
