Does anyone have any experience with bartending school?

Are the bartending schools that a person attends (not online training) a waste of time or do they carry some credibility when hiring people?Does anyone have any experience with bartending school?
hi.. i went and finished a school , top in class. The problem ( for me) was class and being behind a bar just stumped me. The school had me use index cards to write the measurements for drinks, but many places do not use the same measuring . Glasses are not the same size, yadda yadda. Bottom line, I did find that employers liked that I had taken the classes, and never questioned my ability ( or in my case lack of) on being a good bartender. I was hired. I am not a drinker, so I have no clue about the stuff, so this may have played a huge part as to why it never clicked for me. At the end of the day, I think back and wonder if the reason i was never fired may have been because i didn't drink. ( Meaning, I wasn't accepting drinks from customers, and i didn't have friends that drank either) The job is a blast. Making fast money too....Also the classes give you a feel if you want to continue. It did give me tools for life, like bottle marriage ( joining 2 bottles together is against the law. or inventory with measuring for theft. If you ever plan on owning a place, it gives you a view you may not have thought of. Good luck.. :o)Does anyone have any experience with bartending school?
Oh, they definitely count, depending on the school. Even a little school run by an ex-bartender can be a great way into a job. Odds are that person has contacts in the industry. In fact, be sure that any school you check out has good industry contacts in the area you want to work, it makes a BIG difference. By the way, are you pretty or handsome? Appearance and manner determines your income in a major way. There a LOT more openings for females in the biz, too. Getting into the right club or bar has a huge impact on your income. In Florida, bar tending is one of the best jobs in the state. Your going to need a quick mind, a good bod(hey, if you got it, flaunt it!), be on your feet all night... %26amp; a great memory, and count money/make change without ANY mistakes! That last one is important, if you give away the man's money, you're gone. Oh yeah, honesty helps, but bar owners have a saying - "There's no such thing as an honest bartender".

Prove 'em wrong and you will shine!Does anyone have any experience with bartending school?
I attended the Bartending Academy in Seattle Washington. I took a two week course that taught me everything you need to know to be a bartender (as would be expected). It was well worth my time and money.

Based on my experiences, I can tell you that the credibility of the mixology degree varies depending on where you are looking for the job. I found that in the big city there is a lot of competition for bartending jobs and the employers tend to prefer more actual work experience.

A few years later I moved to a county that consisted of several smaller towns, and cities. I had no problem at all finding bartending jobs there.

You should be open to the idea of starting out as a server. With no experience, the degree seems to help tremendously. A server position can easily lead into a bartending spot getting you the experience you need for future work.Does anyone have any experience with bartending school?
You say you don't like on line training but I took a bartending course/ book from bartendingexposed.com and the course was only 37.00 . I am bartending ,I really don't think you should knock on line courses! First of all a lot of people have said that bartending schools are a rip off! Look for yourself. Anyway , if you want to pay 600.00 that's your business. But I learned from the 37.00 course . Not trying to be rude but really .. if you have any brains you can study the bartending book and drinks, apply for jobs when you are confident in yourself. I did. And to me bartending schools are a waste of time! And money. You learn the same things. I know I took the course. I got a job quicker than my friend who went to bartending school..actually its a joke we always talk about...Hey just trying to help! The Credibility is your confidence.. a school will not get you a job.and schools are expensive-600.00
They carry absolutely no credibility whatsoever.聽 Most mgrs/owners are looking for a great attitude and strong work ethic 1st.
