I live on Long Island. I work for an architecture firm, but i am looking for some supplemental income. Is bartending school worth it? Will it really help??Is Bartending School really worth the money?
I totally depends on where you want to work. If you looking to go to a corporate bar I would not go to school because most corporate situations want to teach you how to make drinks their way. There is no doubt that bar tending school is a good way to learn the basics. Is Bartending School really worth the money?
when i wanted to supplement my income as a cook i picked up bartending shifts... i started by being a bar hand (just getting ice, pouring beer, wine etc) and then grdually got into making drinks and since i already knew how to make most basic drinks i was tending bar faster than a friend of mine who went to school. by the way that said friend is now a cocktail waitress..the one thing they dont build on in school is speed. hope this helps.
When I was in restaurants, it was not worth it. Most companies didn't care about a bartending certificate - they wanted personality and experience. Is Bartending School really worth the money?
if you go to bartending school it will definately benefit you when looking for a job. you will learn your drinks very well... if you just start tending bar, you will not know what the customer is asking for.
can you make an ameretto stone sour from the top of your head?
how about a rattlesnake? cosmopolitain? pink squirrel? white russian? kamakazi?
if these drinks are foregin to you- go to school
it depends. some places like that you know how to make a large assortment of drinks, and others like to tell you how they want you to make it. if you have a good knowledge of popular drinks, you should be okay without the school. you could ask a few bartenders at potential establishments you'd be seeking employment in to see if you'd need it or not.Is Bartending School really worth the money?
Depending in where you live is a good idea going to bartending school and getting your certificate or diploma. This will give you a general idea and also a good base to start, although you will learn much more while on the job.
I say it is important cause some bars, clubs, restaurants and catering co. ask for the certificate and also even if they don't ask it gives the sense that you take the job seriously enough to actually take a course on it.
