Is it worth it to go to bartending school?

I am in college and am thinking about going to The Minnesota School of Bartending so I can get a better job as a bartender somewhere. Is it worth it? Will I get hired after completing the course? Is it worth it to go to bartending school?
Bartending Schools (if moderately priced) are definitely worth the money.

I was a successful bartender and bar manager for many years BEFORE I went to bartending school. So you dont NEED to got to school to get a job but the more you know the better you are gonna be t your job and the more fun you will have doing it. Going to bartending school definitely boosted my bartending to the next level and greatly increased my speed..

Bartending school helps instill confidence and give you access to drink knowledge that the bartender who is gonna teach you as a apprentice ( barback ) might not know. A structured and proven course in bartending gives you a wider scope of knowledge that will prepare you for servicing more varieties of customers instead of only learning what " the locals" like at a certain bar you happen to learn at.

Whos gonna get hired first . the Chef who went to cooking school to learn about different cuisine or the cook who learned how to make only Italian food because he learned from his boss and thus can only cook dishes his boss knows in the manner his boss cooks them ?...

I once worked at a bar that served its Guinness COLD and in one pour because thats how the 'locals" liked it.. And all the bartenders that learned at that bar thought this was normal. Remember MOST bartending jobs are awarded after an interview AND a tryout and confidence and knowledge can easily mask inexperience.

Knowledge is power, ( I read that some where)

in conclusion : In my personal experience going to bartending school builds confidence and gives you a great base of knowledge to draw from as you enter the ever changing world of cocktails ,and any one who sayes different probably didnt go to bartending school. Is it worth it to go to bartending school?
Bartending schools are a scam and a waste of money.

Bartending is the PINNACLE job in the service industry, there are always several people competing for the job. The ONLY way to get a job there is to work your way up within a company and prove to the boss/managers that you have what it takes. Get a job as a barback/doorman/waiter and bust your a**, learning everything you can about the bar while you're there, then go for it when a spot opens up.

People who go to bartending school only learn how to make common drinks, which you can learn from the internet. Problem is, people graduate bartending schools and think that they know what the job is all about, and that they are done learning, when in truth, they know about 4% of the job. Neither I, nor anyone else I know who owns/runs a bar/club/resturant has had anything but problems with 'bartending school grads,' in fact, in a choice between 2 people, one with and one without the school, I would go for whichever one would learn faster in MY bar.

A 'degree' from a bartending school is not respected ANYWHERE in the service industry by ANYONE who actually knows what they're doing. The ONLY reason to go to a school is if it is required by your state or county in order to serve liquor.
The more job relative qualifications you have, the better your chances of securing the job..put yourself in the employers position....2 people apply for a job..one of you has the qualification, one hasn`t ! which one would YOU employ...I think you know the answer to your own question now!Is it worth it to go to bartending school?
No

most bars will hire you initially as a server/barback, with or without schooling

schools cost $500+ and don't teach you anything you can't learn on the job... possibly they would help you be promoted a LITTLE bit faster, but most don't feel its worth the $$$
It may depend on where you want to work. My mom went to Bartending School when I was a kid. She then worked at the Officer's Bar on a military base. It was a dressy, high class job and she made bank. Decide what it is you want and research that particular deographic and go from there. Is it worth it to go to bartending school?
I didn't know anything about mixing drinks till I went to bartending school. I graduated and started working at a private country club bartending part time. Made my money back in 3 weeks. Stayed at the country club for 8 years. Made about 15,000. -18.000. a year.
Most bars teach you while you work.

Although it is good to have knowledge of the

different beers and wines and whiskeys

most places will teach you.

So, I would say no.
