I took a bartending course and got my mixology certificate. Searching for positions from local bars and even in places like Red Lobster, and Applebee's. No one wants to hire a new grad from a bartending school, my question is how am I suppose to get experience anywhere, if no wants to hire me because I lack experience. How do i get experience as a barmaid/bartender if no one wants to hire a new grad from bartending school?
The bartending schools graduate almost 25 graduates for every single job opening. They don't tell you that when they take your money. At most bars, you are pouring beer for 90% of the customers so no one cares about a "certificate".
Go anywhere there are catered affairs (golf courses, hotels with wedding receptions, convention centers) and tell the caterer that you are willing to sub in (on short notice) if any of their bartenders calls in sick or goes on vacation. That may be your quickest entry into the world of bartending. How do i get experience as a barmaid/bartender if no one wants to hire a new grad from bartending school?
Honestly, nobody will hire you if you say you went to Bartending School. I have been bartending for 10yrs and have managed a few. I am going to tell you to go find a place that you know you probably won't stay at and lie. Tell them that you have experience DO NOT tell them that you went to school. It is a whole different ballgame. but all you have to remember is , be observant, always go with your gut, be honest and fair and whatever you do, NEVER change your mind or go back on your word. AND NO MATTER WHAT TREAT EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT WALKS IN YOUR BAR THE SAME AND WITH RESPECT, 'cause it is usually the dirty looking guy that will give you the 5 instead of the 1.How do i get experience as a barmaid/bartender if no one wants to hire a new grad from bartending school?
Tell them you will work only for tips for a few weeks and if they like you they can hire you full time.If they don't pay you after a few weeks you can apply at other places and you will have the exp. :)
